Styling the Seasons July 2015

I’m not really sure how life gets so busy the last few weeks have been a crazy roller coaster. I had so many balls in the air that I have to admit that I have dropped them all. I’m not sure where they are, as I’ve yet to pick them up! In the last 3 weeks, there was the workshop with Emily that I do promise to write up soon, well, at least before the next one in September. I’ve just photographed the next in my series of From My Kitchen, which is a delicious recipe from a really inspiring adventurer and photographer (I can’t wait to share). I’ve worked at Eltham Palace (who knew Eltham had such an incredible palace!) and the Barbican. I’ve photographed a property for an interiors designer. And I’ve nipped up to Yorkshire to photograph Rachelle‘s beautiful farmhouse for Apartment Therapy.

As well as work there’s the adventures with Eden & Haven (aka daily life). But the biggest, most time-consuming thing over the last few weeks has been saying goodbye to our old flat. This painful, long, drawn out sale (which took a YEAR!) is finally over. The process though, had made me hate that flat, I hated going there, I hated the feeling of suffocation, stress, worry. It was this huge weight and problem and I just wanted it to go away. Finally it has. We spent a week clearing it out ready to hand over the keys to the new owners. Whilst I was there, alone, I began to remember all the good things, the happy memories. This had been our home for 8 years and really they were very happy years. Both our children came home to this flat, this was their first home and aside from my childhood home this is the space that I have lived the longest. From what it was when we bought it, to how it evolved and changed to fit our new lives is a happy story. There was definite nostalgia whilst I packed and cleaned and I got a little lost in bringing a little of our garden inside. My dad gave us the Jasmine cuttings which has flourished and the clematis Michael planted a few years ago to hide a fence is stunning. These are two of my most favourite things about that garden, things we couldn’t take with us. So I styled a little corner of our old home, a spot where the tv used to be with this stool we found at Majeurs Chesterfield for my July Styling the Seasons.

This July is about letting go, saying good-bye, remembering the happy times and finally moving on…
